The BattleField: Bad Company 2 Beta offers a familiar interface to Battlefield 2 right when you enter the game, but I have been overwhelmed by lag on almost every server so far.

Seems like today I got a bit of stuff done, including remaking my webpage (although it’s far from finished). A friend that I met when I was playing Aion (I’ll call him Silent from now on) gave me a beta key to Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve read alot of threads hyping up this game and I just had to see it for myself. Many people seem to have the opinion that it will be much better than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with its dedicated servers, big maps, punkbuster? – all of which MW2 did not have.

So I downloaded the 1.5gb client from fileplanet and installed it. Once I opened the game, I already sensed some familiarity with its interface being similar to Battlefield 2. When I went to play a game, however, was when the frustration begins.

the server finder was extremely slow and it made me wait a few minutes till it found EVERY single server

I couldn’t sort by latency?

the filters didn’t seem to work either

But I’d be fair, it’s only day 3 or something like that of the beta. What’d you expect? The worst experience by far though was the ingame lag. I joined a total of 4 servers, and the game was insanely laggy in all 4! First, I thought perhaps my laptop was finally showing some age, but even when I set the resolution to the lowest one and the quality to low, the lag was still there. Hopefully, it’s not my rig but the overloaded servers. I’ll have to confirm with Silent on this
